Hi all,

CBS 48 Hours Mystery had an interesting program last night about a murder that had been assigned to John Norman Collins of Ypsilanti "fame". Jane Mixer was killed during his reign of terror but recent, somewhat questionable (police said it must have been from sweat or saliva), DNA evidence pointed the finger at another man and he was eventually convicted of her slaying. Police had also looked at a man who was supposed to give her a ride on her last night. Although she had his name in her notes, he said he didn't know her and had a very strong alibi. They also investigated her boyfriend and cleared him. The only foreign blood the police found on the woman's body was of another convicted murderer. The problem with that is he was only four years old at the time. It just gets curiouser and curiouser. No one has any explanation for the boy's blood. There is no evidence that he and the convicted man ever knew each other. One must have to wonder if DNA evidence is totally reliable. The convicted man may have done it but if I was on the jury I'm not sure I would concede that it was beyond a reasonable doubt.

Best wishes,

Stan

DNA evidence is not always reliable
