Whitechapel 1888 is very similar to the ever-popular game of Monopoly. Each player has a role - either as Jack or as one of the canonical victims - and each advances around the board based on a roll of the dice. The victims' role is to stay alive and get safely to Scotland Yard... Jack's role... well, you can figure that one out. Game play is quite enjoyable, though be forewarned that you need a minimum of three players to initiate a game (a two-player alternative game might have been a nice addition). There are also a number of fairly-involved rules to remember, which change depending on what square your game piece is currently resting upon - so be sure to read the rules two or three times before starting a game! Thankfully, the rules are printed on the game board itself, so its very convenient to refer to them in the midst of play. The board itself is brilliantly designed, with various familiar locations from Whitechapel and environs, including Underground stations, pubs, police stations, etc. Two small issues arise with the quality of the game materials. The board itself is rather thin, and its difficult to get it to lay perfectly flat during game play, as the creases tend to fold upward (with time and frequent play this small problem will probably go away - for the time being we put paperweights on the edges). Also the box opens only from the side - I'm not sure why that bothered me, but it did! Nevertheless, an excellent game produced by Andy & Sue Parlour and Adam Wood. Previous Ripper board games have become quite collectible, and can sell on eBay for upwards of $75-$100... it might be a good idea to buy this one now while its still affordable! Stephen P. Dear Stephen Many thanks for your kind comments on the game. If I can address a couple of the minor issues you mention... Firstly it is possible to play with two players. The gameplay dictates that once only one 'lady' is remaining she must make a dash for Scotland Yard and safety. Obviously, if there was just one lady to start with it would be a short game. An option is to decide a number of 'laps' of the board before entering the central area. Secondly, the slimness of the board itself and the side flap opening rather than a traditional lid were dictated by costs. This first run has been privately funded and as every self publisher knows, costs are (nearly) everything. It's hoped that profits from this first run will fund an improved version, so all comments on gameplay are welcomed as these can only improve the game for the next run. Finally, folding your board the opposite way to how it sits in the box will flatten it out! Hope you have as many happy hours playing it as I did designing it! Those interested in buying the game can now do so using a credit card direct from www.whitechapel1888.com Adam

Andy and Sue I've tried to reply to your recent email about the game but twice it has bounced back to me. Let me know if you have an alternative email address I can use, ok? Love, Caz PS The games arrived safely thanks, by the way, but won't be opened 'til Christmas. |

Hi, This may seen like a stupid question but is this game only available over the internet or will it be available in shops? Also when you said that we can order unsigned copies for half the price does that mean half of £19.99 or is that the "half price" price. |
