I found this notice for an opera called La Mondolina, which is subtitled Tumblety Outdone! I know nothing more about this at present. The notice is from Washington Star, 4 December 1861 |

Chris--I'm not sure this is really a case of the Opera being sub-titled "Tumblety Outdone'; rather, this was probably the name of a short farce lampooning Tumblety after the performance. Canterbury Hall was famous for such sketches. Indeeed, Tumblety sued the Canterbury Music Hall for lampooning him; details are in the 2nd [American] edition of Evans & Gainey's The Lodger. RJP |

HI RJ Thnkas for that - good point! I read it as a subtitle because the title runs through past the comma after the fourth Mondolina. Maybe I'm putting too much faith in Victorian punctuation:-) Regards Chris S |
