The Whitechapel Horrors, by Edward B. Hanna
One of the best fiction treatments of the Ripper to have ever been written.
This one is a product of close study of the JTR mystery, and it pits none other than Sherlock Holmes against the Ripper. Althought the ending is left open and our Jack is not caught by Holmes, on every other level this book succeeds in capturing the feel and tenor of the the times in a way that no mere factual study of the murders can.
Mr. Hanna pays as close an attention to the factual details as any Ripper writer composing their opus on the real crimes. He also gives logical details of the minor players of the mystery as well or better than any history text could ever hope to do. I recomment that everyone read this book if they can find a copy.

i have to bump this thread because even though i am super critical of jack the ripper fiction, but i give hanna's book a ringing endorsement.

it's really well written, a fun take on the sherlock holmes angle, and completely satisfying to the last page. i read it in one sitting.
