Hi everyone - Wanted to let you know that the 2005 Edition of what was previously called the "Casebook CD-Rom" is now available for sale at http://casebook.org/cdrom.html There are scores of changes in the new 2005 edition, but perhaps the biggest change is the addition of a fully functional search engine - something many users of the previous CD-Rom versions requested time and time again. Starting with the 2005 Edition, you can now run keyword searches on all content (current AND archived) on the "At Home" version. For those who don't know about the "At Home" version, its a completely browsable version of the existing web site with no advertising and no pop-up ads. It also contains thousands of pages of content no longer available on the live web site. You can browse it directly from the DVD (if you have a DVD drive), or directly from your hard-drive (for CD-Rom users). In total there are more than 23,000 files (over 1.1 Gigabytes of information) included in the 2005 Edition. All sales of 2005 Edition directly benefit the web site, so thank you for your support! Please send questions to cd@casebook.org. Thanks! Stephen P. Ryder, Exec. Editor Casebook: Jack the Ripper |

Hi Stephen, This sounds great... The search engine especially. I had a couple of technical questions on that, but then reading the page on the site and then also the "Click for more information" link answered them already. Hrmmm... now I have to decide if I'm going to get a DVD drive or not, as that sounds much more convenient and I'd been thinking about one anyway.

Hi Dan - I'm actually surprised how many people do have DVD drives on their computers... nearly 80% of those who have ordered so far have asked for the DVD. (I myself only got a DVD drive on my PC a few weeks ago, for the sole purpose of authoring these DVDs.... ) The DVD is nice if you don't have 1.2 Gigs of hard drive space, but most modern computers should be able to handle the CD installation. Personally, I use the hard-drive installation on my PC and the DVD version on my Mac laptop when I'm away from the office. The search engine is a huge help - I've been using it nearly every day since I created it... very useful in picking up snippets in the archived message boards. I picked up a very well-reviewed Sony DVD+-R/RW external drive for about $160 at Staples.com (after coupons and rebates). So far I'd highly recommend it - no problems whatsoever, and lightning fast.
