is it possible that some of the police constables could have known who was doing it. or had a general idea, but were not saying any thing. it seems strange that they kept there beat widely covered, and yet none of them saw nothing. or heard nothing. |

Hey there Bill, Although it's possible, I can't think of one good reason why anyone, let alone a constable, would not have said anything in case he or she knew who Jack the Ripper was. Some thought they had a general idea, but in each of these cases it turned out to be a wrong idea and this was probably because both the police and the public were looking for the wrong kind of man. Jack killed and mutilated like a monster, so they probably thought he also had to look like one - I think quite the opposite was closer to the truth. I think it's more likely that the constables didn't see anything suspicious because Jack most probably knew the streets and alleyways of Whitechapel like the back of his hand and at least his victims must have had a good idea of how long they would have with their clients before the next constanble would pass by. The reason why they (or anybody for that matter) didn't hear anything suspicious must be that he 'worked' silently. All the best, Frank |

Bill, I have to agree with Frank here. It's not very likely. The reason the police didn't see anything is mostly because, the prostitutes weren't about to 'conduct their business' where they knew the police would be. This made them very vunerable and part of the reason he may have killed them. |
