I've been listening to a lecture-on-CD series entitled "The Discovery of Ancient Civilizations", and was absolutely floored that an entire lecture in the series was devoted solely to Charles Warren's experiences with Underground Jerusalem. I knew Warren had some notable experiences during his time in Palestine, but had no idea he was still considered such a major force in Biblical Archaeology. The professor praises Warren a great deal (and labels him an "eccentric" which honestly I've never pictured him as). Interesting to get another perspective on a completely different aspect of his career. For anyone interested, the lectures are by Brian M. Fagan (Ph.D. Cambridge University) of the University of California at Santa Barbara.
