I think we have beaten the whole poisoning thing to death but I still think it is quite a coincidence that Chapman had training as a surgeon's apprentice. How much weight should we give to that fact? Could this have been the start of Jack's interest in female organs and the place where he first learned to handle a knife?

It hasn't been established that he really was a surgeon's apprentice, so it seems premature to try to figure out how much weight to give to it.

On the other hand, we know that some of the police officials at the time did put a lot of weight on the idea, which of course could explain why some suspects without any medical background were described as having had one.

Hi Dan,

Where did that allegation first arise? I was operating under the assumption that it was a known fact. I can't be certain but didn't Sugden talk about it?

Re weight given, he was certainly a suspect, and there were good reasons. However, that is all.
