Found this. I'm not sure if it's been posted before (although I have checked) and I'm not sure if it's the same Victoria home that George Hutchinson occupied, but interesting nonetheless.

Great find. There were several Victoria homes in the East end. GH's was opposite the City Darts pub.

Where did you get this? What's the provenance?

Bob - I can't tell you where Gareth got this from but it is yet another image from the priceless Jack London 'People Of The Abyss' (1902). I have a US 1907 reprint and it is in that.

And, of course, The City Darts is now The Princess Alice again!

Bob,

I found it tucked away in an online illustrated version of Jack London's "People of the Abyss". unfortunately I've cleared my broswer cache/history so can't give you the URL offhand, but "People of the Abyss" should be easily Googleable.

Suzi.

That is not Jack London. That is obviously ME doing one of my tours. Very similar, I have to say.

That second image of the wet street and the dosshouse is one of my absolute favourites. I would love to get a blow-up of that on my wall.

That's not one I've had before, Robert.

The list of my celebrity lookalikes is as long as your arm, but that's a new one.

Here's a photo of me when I won a rare Ripper book on eBay recently.
