Hello everyone on Casebook, Please forgive me if this posting appears in the wrong thread and feel free to remove or replace it if this is the case. We would like to inform you that a new musical based on the diary story will open next Saturday in the Netherlands. This musical version of "Jack the Ripper" focuses on the possibility that James Maybrick was Jack the Ripper. We follow James from his first killing in Whitechapel all through his death and Florences trial. Instead of building suspension by concentrating on the identity of the Ripper, the musical focuses on James' inner turmoil and the effects the murders had on all those involved. A cast of fifty singers and actors inhabit the open air set and take the audience back to Whitechapel. As the book writer of this musical I am aware of the controversy surrounding the diary, especially here. Please note that we do not claim the diary to be authentical. We simply don't know. But from a theatrical point of view, James Maybricks story is a very dramatic one. The musical has been ten years in the making and the casebook has been an enormous help for my research. Therefor I would like to thank all casebook contributors for their input and invite you to come and see the show. You are most welcome in the Netherlands and two free tickets are awaiting everyone who has been posting on this mesage board. The musical is playing from June 9 till June 26, every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening at 20:30 hours in the Buytenpark Open Air Theatre, Zoetermeer (near The Hague) in the Netherlands. The show is sung in Dutch, but an English summary is available. If you would like to receive more information on the show or get your free tickets, please contact me at baud@greg-baud.nl Kind regards, Sebastiaan Smits |

Hi Sebastiaan, I'll be thinking of you. I agree that James Maybrick's story is a very dramatic one, and, whether anyone likes it or not, the diary and watch have played no small part in keeping the drama fresh in our minds today. Let us know how it goes down. Love, Caz X |

Will the script be available, probably with the first few pages ripped out? PHILIP Tour guides do it loudly in front of a crowd!

Just to keep everyone informed: after it's initial three weeks in the open air, the production has now reopened in the Kwadrant Theatre in Zoetermeer and is playing there for two more weeks. Photographs can be found at this link: http://groups.msn.com/RedLineFotografie/jackkwadrant.msnw
