I have notheard this story of Alice Aldam but she certainly seems to have existed! In 1891 she was living at 1 Paul's Lane, Rotherhithe and the family details are as follows: Head: John Aldam aged 28 born City Road, London Oil Cake Maker Wife: Alice Louisa Aldam aged 27 born Whitechapel Union Oil Mills Children: Welstead John aged 6 born Stepney William George aged 5 born Rotherhithe Joseph aged 4 born Rotherhithe The husband's full name was John Herbert Aldam and the marriage was registered in March 1884 between him and Alice Louisa Wellsteed at Mile End. Alice Wellstead (sic) is registered in the 1881 census as a visitor to the King's Head, Hertford Road, Edmonton, Middlesex. Her details are given as follows: ALICE WELLSTEAD Born 1863 in Whitechapel (age at time of Census is 18) Unmarried Hope this is of use Chris |
