I seem to remember this being debated on an episode of "Morse" that she (and the other victims) by modern standards were comarably short. How tall were they?

Hi Einar,

Besides their physical description, you can find out more about the victims in the 'Victims' section in the top left of this screen.

All the best,
Frank

This is true, but if it is just Liz you want info on, I have always understood she was 5'5" tall. The 'Long' being a misnomer as it was given as a nickname to people named Stride (as in long strides).

It is also a misnomer that people were smaller then. The fact is it all depended on your diet; if you were rich and well-fed as a child you could expect to be the same as the average man today. If you were poor and malnourished as a child, it would stay that way. I have criminal reports from many of the brilliant books by Steve Jones of WICKED PUBLICATIONS and they regularly have reports on juvenile offenders of 15 years of age being 4'10" tall - there's them as has the money in this world...

That's an interesting idea as to how Liz got the nickname 'Long'. It often considered it likely that it came about due to her elongated face. Just as another nickname of hers, 'Hippy Lip Annie', came about due to her exagerated bottom lip.

Yours truly,

Tom Wescott

It struck me as rather implausible, Tom, but I have read it in more than one seemingly reliable book. I used to think that rubbish about her being nearly 6 feet tall was true, but we all know now it wasn't.
