After both her parents died Catherine lived for a time with an aunt. This period is summarised as follows: Her education continues when she returns to the care of her aunt in Bison Street, Wolverhampton. She attends Dowgate Charity School. By 1861-1863 she leaves home with Thomas Conway. The Wolverhampton papers also say she went to live at Bison Street. We also learn she had an uncle named William Eddowes. I believe this is a mistranscription and the road where she lived was actually called Bilston Street - to be precise, 50 Bilston Street, Wolverhampton. The 1861 census for this address reads: Head: William Eddowes aged 42 born Wolverhampton - Tinplate worker Wife: Elizabeth Eddowes aged 40 born Wolverhampton George aged 11 Lily aged 9 Harriet aged 1 month All children born in Wolverhampton Niece: Cath Eddowes aged 20 born Wolverhampton - Scourer I am certain this niece, Cath, is "our" Catherine Eddowes - the age, relationship to William and Elizabeth, and place of birth are right. Here is the listing: Here is an enlargement of the niece's name:
