Can Chris or anyone else please look up the name of a Mrs. Bigler on the 1880 census - she is a boarding house landlady in Stepney? If you find her (and her address there), she left the area by 1882 or 1883. Try to see if in the 1890 census a similar landlady of that name is in Mornington Crescent. Best wishes (and happy hunting), Jeff Bloomfield |

My mistake, and apologies - the name of the landlady is Mrs. Bickers, not Bigler. Her address in Stepney is 32 Smith Street. But I still need help regarding Mrs. Bickers and those two census returns. Thank you, Jeff |

Hi Jeff In 1891 32 Smith Street, Stepney, consisted of two households head respectively by: 1) Terence Page, a 29 year old cellarman and 2) Henry Southerton, a 32 year old warehouseman The only person in Smith Street with a remotely similar name to the one you are seeking was: 57 Smith Street Susanna Bickerstaff Lodger Widow Aged 72 Born St.George's In 1881 Census Susuanna Bickerstaff is listed as widowed head of household at 15 Charles Street, London with 5 of her children. However - now the good news:-) If we go back to 1881 and look up 32 Smith Street Stepney, we find the following housegold: Head: Sarah BICKEN aged 51 born Lambeth Widowed Daughter: Jane Bicken aged 22 born Chigwell, Essex Lodgers: Frederick Evans aged 25 born Chelsea Traveller Henry Watling aged 25 born St Lukes T W Goodfellow aged 20 born Merthyr Tydfil Shorthand Writer Hope this helps Chris |

Thanks Chris. The remaining thing is to see if Mrs. Sarah Bicken (or Bickers) reappears at or near Mornington Crescent in the 1890 or 1900 census returns. by 1891 she'd be 61, and by 1900 she'd be 71. This can be important, if it can be shown. But thank you again for locating the lady in 1881. Jeff |

Hi zcxter, Chris Scott sent me this awhile back: I have found Wilkinson in the 1891 census, listed at 55 Flower and Dean Street, listed as a lodging house. His entry reads as follows: Frederick W Wilkinson Married Aged 35 Lodging House Manager Born Manchester His wife was Mary A Wilkinson, aged 24 born Whitechapel. No children are listed. Cheers, Dave
