These two mutts were quite the celebrities in their day.... Just acquired this 1890 print of them both, titled "Champion Barnaby [and] Burgho". Can be seen in greater detail at: http://www.casebook.org/images/brough-dogs-big.jpg Stephen P. Ryder, Editor Casebook: Jack the Ripper |

Dear Board, I recently purchased a contemporary magazine article by the owner of these dogs. He gives a very full account of his dogs use in catching criminals and of course the full details of the JTR affair. I am in the process of moving offices at the moment so can't readily lay my hands on it. As soon as I can I will post further details. Bob |

Hi, Bob: The magazine article you mean is possibly Edwin Brough, "The Bloodhound" that appeared in The Century; a popular quarterly. New York. Volume 38, Issue 2, June 1889, pp. 189-198, previously discussed on the boards. I believe the intrepid Chris Scott found article. If it is not that article, by all means, give us the details. The link to the title of the article above will take people to Brough's piece in The Century. All the best Chris |

Interesting piece. The author indicates that trial were indeed made in the London streets, but proved ineffective. Considering the apparent expertise of the author, this seems to settle the matter of whether they might have been effective if available at Miller's Court. Andy
