Hello Kazzi, I would say there are are primarily two reasons JTR was never caught: 1. The police were looking for the worng sort of suspect. They were seeking a raving lunatic, whereas today we know that most serial killers have a fairly normal appearance and mannerism. 2. JTR posses a remarkable combination of skill and luck in avoiding detection in the act. It must also be remebered that: 1. JTR might have died or fled before being captured. 2. JTR might have indeed been captured or at least identified by police, but not prosecuted for lack of evidence or because successful prosecution waqs doubful (as in the case of insanity). Andy

Kazzi, The police did as much as they could have done back then. They were extremely limited in both manpower, technology and funding. Give what they had to use back then, they did a commendable job. Even today, with the resources of a major metropolitan police force it would be difficult to catch the Ripper. It was almost impossible back then. B |

Quite true, Brian, especially about the lack of modern technology. Yet I remember reading that most murders were solved in that era. Of course, JTR's contemporary, the Thames torso murderer, was also not caught. Andy
