I am currently working through some Mexican newspapers (Spanish and English language) and I will be posting some of this surprisingly full coverage. But I have found same AMAZING versions of names in these reports. I found Forbes Winslow as Jorbes Winslou but today I found a totally inexplicable version of Catharine Eddowes name!!! Translating the part in question, which was a long summary of the case, in a paper called El Cronista: "The two new victims were called Isabel Stride, known among her companions by the nickname of "Isabel the Long" and Wally Warden." How anyone can get Wally Warden from Catherine Eddowes, heavens knows! Or is there some wonderfully named victim we know nothing about??? Chris S PS: I will be posting the whole article shortly |

Actually, there was a witness who identified Elizabeth Stride as "Wally Warden." Someone named 'One-Armed Liz' identified Elizabeth Stride's body under this alias, according to the A-Z. Stephen P. Ryder, Editor Casebook: Jack the Ripper |

And didn't Des McKenna suggest that Liz Stride may have been wall-eyed? Perhaps Wall-eye Warden became Wally? ... por ultimo, particularidad extraordinaria, las dos eran casadas y separadas de sus maridos como las quatro mujeres asesinadas anteriormente. And then there was Mary Kelly - also separated from her common-law hubby - yet poor old Joe Barnett gets a rougher time of it than any of the others for some reason, including Michael Kidney and John Kelly, the latter suggested by Kate to be someone who could give her "a damn fine hiding".
