Continuing on with my work o'fiction, I'm now working on a scene located at the Ten Bells. I have uncovered the following: Christ Church Spitalfields has clock dials on at least three sides of the church and they were lit by gas beginning in 1866. (meaning someone could see the clock from the pub). The question -- did the church bells chime the hour/half/qtr? Or were they only used to call the faithful to services? Details, details. Thanks Jana (Oliver)

I wish I had an answer for you, but I am intrigued by your work o'fiction. If you care to share any details, I would be fascinated. I have always thought there should be a thread just for novels-in-progress. I wish you well. |

Uriah Sorry for the delay in answering -- was on the road. The book (Sojourn) involves a time traveler who journeys to 1888 London in search of a missing 'time tourist'. Along the way she encounters a hidden society of shapeshifters (and a few anarchists) while desperately trying not to muck up history. A few product disclaimers -- the time traveler isn't the Ripper, the shapeshifters aren't werewolves. The WhiteChapel murders are a backdrop to the main plot. I really want to do something unique while staying true to history. I'm having a pair of Ripperologists vet the book so I don't make a complete arse out of myself. I don't want folks throwing things at me next April in Baltimore (unless it's coins to buy my book!)
