Thanks, Diana. It's important for us to follow current scientific research not just to try to understand what makes a serial killer but to disabuse ourselves of some of the old thinking on this issue. I can remember when we knew little about the pathology of these crimes and had to flail around in the dark. We had ideas that were simplistic such as - the killer's mother was overbearing and so he's killing women who remind him of her.Or that we could really get somewhere analysing the times of the killing or phases of the moon or whatever. It's still so tempting to try to find patterns and interpret them as the killer trying to communicate to us. The "catch me if you can" syndrome. Mags
