I just wondered whether anyone had ever come across this Yank called 'Leroy Nicholas Darlington Pickett' before. He came to England in 1887 and left in 1891, and was one hell of weirdo, judging by the letters I have found in court cases in The Times. He had a fixation for a certain actress and the letters he wrote to her are certainly interesting. He was an organist and singer in some Yanky band at Manchester but travelled to London frequently by train to bother this actress. I'd be interested to hear more about this strange chap. |

Hi AP, Who was the actress? Someone famous like Lily Langtry or Ellen Terry? Or slightly less famous like the Savoyard Jessie Bond? Best wishes, Jeff |

The singer was Miss Margaret Macintyre, described as 'the famous singer'. The full story is in The Times, October 12th 1891. Funnily enough in the same issue is the funeral of your Mr Parnell, from the Cutbush thread. |
