Hi Suzi Email up creek. No, I can't remember seeing it before. Well done! When I first saw it come up, before I clicked on it I felt sure it was going to be another Bob Hinton mock-up! Robert |

Hi all This is a Petticoat Lane market picture, of which there are a number of postcard views available through the years. In other words, this East End market can be found not only in Middlesex Street (formerly Petticoat Lane) but in the adjoining streets as well. Here's another view for sale on ebay at present. Best regards Chris

Hi Suzi-- An earlier picture of the Jewish market in Goulston Street taken from 'Living London' (1901-02), edited by George R. Sims may be seen at -- Goulston Street on Sunday Morning You might also like to know that Coral Kelly discusses the history of Petticoat Lane and the Jewish market in Middlesex Street and the streets surrounding it in the latest (September 2004) issue of Ripperologist. These pictures are splendid. Thanks again Suzi and Chris. This last,Goulston Street on Sunday Morning is superb. The people look as I imagined they would poor but respectable and the well dressed man in the top hat does in fact stand out like a sore thumb there. |

Yes, that was indeed a good picture, Chris (and yours too, Suzi, although it could be a bit bigger in size). Always interesting with these old photos showing the people. I thought I spotted David Cohen in there somewhere, but that wouldn't fit the date of the photo... All the best Glenn L. Andersson, crime historian

Hi Julie. Yes I agree with you. He does look creepy. That means he is indeed Jack The Ripper. You didn't used to be Patricia Cornwell by any chance did you? PHILIP PS : What on earth is said declaration doing on this thread?! Tour guides do it loudly in front of a crowd!
