Why is it that we hear practically nothing about Mary Kelly's roommate 'Julia' who is specifically mentioned by the press as having existed? Surely she could have served as a prime witness and could easily have sighted the killer on that fateful night? |

Hi Greg, I seem to be loosing it tonight for some reson. I got Julia mixed up with Lizzie Albrook. Lizzie was the woman that lived in the court. I am not sure if Julia ever lived there, unless she did in fact live with Kelly. I know that Kelly had no roommate at the time of her murder and Julia made no claim to have been living there with Kelly at the inquest. and too answer your original question as accurate as I can?I do not believe that Julia,Maria or Lizzie ever saw the killer. I will clear up another mistake I made because I feel the strange need to. It was Lizzie who claimed to have seen Kelly around seven that evening. I believe that Julia claimed to see her last the morning of her murder arond ten. I apologise for the confusion. All the best,CB |

Hi Greg, Julia Venturney did testifi at the inquest. I might be mistaken in my last post to you. It is 2:30 in the morning hear and I am getting tired. She stated nothing to give the impression that she knew who the ripper was. All the best,CB |

Hi Greg, It is unclear to me the name of Kelly's roommate. I have heard that Julia was her roommate and a woman by the name of Maria Harvey who was the woman that left the cloths with Kelly the night she was murderd. Harvey testified at the inquest, but Julia did not. They both claimed to have seen Kelly the night she was killed around seven that evening. I do not believe that either woman was living with Kelly the night she was murderd. I do believe that Julia had found a place in the court to live. Niether Julia or Maria claimed to have seen the ripper or know who he was. All the best,CB |

Where did this 'roommate' idea come from? I've heard that she sometimes had friends (mostly other prostitutes) stay with her from time to time, but I've never heard that she had an actual roommate as such. Hi Sarah, I believe the roommate idea was started because of Barnetts testimony at the inquest. He stated that he left Kelly because of the fact she had taken in an unfortunate out of compasion. I do not feel she had a roommate except for Barnett. She let unfortunate stay with her for a few days. I am not sure who the woman was she was either Julia Venturney,Lizzie Albrook,or Maria Harvey I guess you can tell by the mess I made out of my above reply to Greg that I get those women confused. Take care,CB |
