Good-Day Leanna, My guess it was first used by the publishers of Tom Cullen's 1959 book on Jack The Ripper. I say 'the publisher' because contrary to popular belief, authors rarely get to choose the names on their released books! I have always thought it was the best encapsulated image. Possibly influenced by Alfred Hitchcock's atmospheric movie,THE LODGER. |
