Does anyone know where I could find one? I have never seen a picture of him.

Whatho Peter,

I think he's a vampire so no camera (or mirror for that matter) can capture his image.

Cheers, Mark van Helsing

"Does anyone know where I could find one? I have never seen a picture of him."

That is actually quite an interesting point. Mr Sugden do seem to be a very elusive and private guy. I have never seen a picture of him either.

I don't know what he looks like, but I've always wondered if Philip Sugden the author is the same man who does the Tibetan drawings I've seen online (they're beautiful).

Hey guys,

David, this is the artist I think you're talking about.

Is this the mysterious Sudgen?

Philip Sudgen-the artist

Hi, Peter

Judging from the artist's Amazon.com biography, it looks like the artist and the author are two different people after all.

So Mr. Sugden remains unseen--I guess I'll just have to be content with his excellent book :-)

Wow!! I'm so relieved now. I've been waiting for this for years. Is there a date for when this was taken? Looks pretty old.

Thank you SPE!

Peter

Doesn't look anything like that artist

If anybody is looking for a Ripper book, rare or common, you must buy from Loretta. She has great service. She even has non JTR books. Just check out her website. She’s also very nice and helpful.

Ha!
Just popped in for a quick glimpse, and look what I find on this thread -- finally a picture of the elusive Philip Sugden at last.
Thanks for that, "SPE". Our curiousity is finally satisfied. :-)

Looks like a photo from the 1970s to me (or very early 80s), considering the hair and the glasses.

And I agree with Peter; Loretta Lay is splendid. Her stacks of titles are considerable and her service is really good as well. Not to mention a very pleasant person on the whole to deal and communicate with.
Anyone who still hasn't visited her site, should absolutely do so.

All the best

Hi all

Incidentally, Philip Sugden's brother, John, is a well-known historian. He has just published Nelson: A Dream of Glory 1758-1797 (New York: Henry Holt, 2004) which chronicles the English naval hero's early career. Earlier titles include a biography of the other famous Age of Sail English sea commander, Sir Francis Drake (New York: Henry Holt, 1991), and Tecumseh: A Life (New York: Henry Holt, 1998), on Tecumseh, the Indian war leader was killed at the Battle of the Thames, Upper Canada, in 1813. Tecumseh was shot, his corpse supposedly skinned, while leading his braves in a battle with the U.S. Army and militia under General William Henry Harrison, the future U.S. President. His slayer was allegedly the future Vice President of the United States, Col. Richard M. Johnson of Kentucky.

All the best

Chris
