Or rather, I'm a longtime lurker. I'm a banker by trade with no real experience in any field related to Ripper research. I first became interested in the Ripper when I heard of a theory involving a Masonic connection. Being a loyal lodge man, I went about to find a learned criticism of Mr. Knight's claim. I ended up here at casebook. Once again I'm digging into the Ripper situation, researching a Whitchapel scenario for the horror roleplaying game Call of Cthulhu. I'm not much of a sleuth and don't really have a favorite suspect, but I think several suspects are rather dubious: Dodgson, Dr. Cream, the Prince, Stephen, Sickert. Frankly, if Lewis Carrol did it we should weep for the whole world because there isn't a decent man among us. My tendency is to regard the "Mishter Lusk" letter as the only one possibly from the perpetrator. Also, I sometimes wonder if Mary Kelly was a Ripper victim or a copycat. Again, Howdy! |

Hi Jeff, Ah, Cthulhu by Gaslight, eh? Sounds like a lot of fun. There are a lot of whacky theories out there that would make far better RPG material than non-fiction books about the case. I don't know if you had the basic plot in mind already or not, but if you'd like some wild Weird Tales-style ideas feel free to email me. And, yeah, it's bad enough that some people want to paint Lewis Carroll as a pedophile, but Jack the Ripper...? Ugh.
