The Trenton Times and the Ogden Standard 6 March 1891, reported the story of a man named, Gavin, who had made a ferocious assault with a knife upon fellow passengers in a railway carriage in Castlerea, Dublin. The man, it was said, has been declared of unsound mind, and had previously served two prison terms for stabbing people without any motive. The police are apparently impressed with his likeness to the descriptions of Jack the Ripper, and are making further inquiries.
