London, Oct. 5.
A sensation was caused by the publication in a special edition of a
prominent morning paper of the details of another horrible murder supposed
to have been committed by the Whitechapel fiend. A watchman who followed a
man and woman behind a board fence in front of some new buildings was said
to have been murdered by the man, the latter being at once arrested.
Inquiry at Scotland Yard elicited the information, however, that the story
was entirely untrue and that the paper had probably been hoaxed.
