Wm. Seaman battered to death an old Jew, John Levy, aged 75, in his house in Whitechapel at 2 o'clock in the afternoon of Saturday, April, and afterwards murdered his housekeeper, a woman named Gale, by cutting her throat. Levy, who was a retired leather dealer, kept his money in gold in his house and Seaman when he got into the house thought its inmates would be at the Synagogue. He was seen climbing on the roof of the house and a cry was raised. He jumped from a wall in trying to escape and injured himself.
