One of the most shocking and revolting murders in the history of the city [Chicago] occurred on the 3rd. instant. A Mrs. Walsch, an inoffensive woman, left alone by her husband during the day, was found upon his return at night foully murdered and her body lacerated in 115 places, the work being similar to that of "Jack the Ripper." A young man, upon being arrested, confessed his guilt, saying that when he was under the influence of liquor he made an improper proposal, for which he received a slap in the face, when he proceeded with his ferocious murder. Infuriated by beer purchased at the next door, the sight of blood only tended to increase his depravity.
