Charles Littlewood

Witness at Frances Coles' inquest.

Born c.1874, Enfield, Middlesex[1]. A waiter at Stephen Longhurst's Coffee Shop at 73 Whitechapel Road. Called to the fourth day of the Coles inquest, he said:

"About 6:30 on the morning of the 13th I remember a man coming into the shop and asking for some cocoa. I noticed some blood on the left wrist. He then sat down and asked for another cup of cocoa, and remarked that his ribs hurt him. I did not serve him with a second cup as he was drunk. I noticed a peculiar smell about the man, as if he had been in a doctor's shop. Mr. Longhurst came down and spoke to the man, who remained in the shop till about 7:30. During the latter part of the time the man employed himself reading the paper. I noticed no blood except that on his wrist. He had a scar over the left eye. He walked straight when he left the shop, and I do not think he was drunk then."[2]
