Rothschild Buildings
White, Jerry
London: Routledge and Kegan Paul. 1980.
301pp. Illustrated, Bibliography, Index. [Victorian London]
ISBN: 071000429X

Casebook Review:

Rothschild Buildings is an incredibly detailed look at the lives of a dozen or so families in one specific "model dwelling" between 1887 and 1920. Much of the book is comprised of direct and unedited quotes from his taped interviews with ex-residents of the Rothschild Buildings, taking us through the gritty (and often unpleasant) details of everyday life. The style is so raw and refreshing that the reader almost feels as though he or she is interviewing the speaker themselves.
