Hi, A 'modest' and extremely talented author, who's name escapes me for the moment, had the brilliant idea of releasing a book earlier this year which I'm told was quite successful. His book covered 150 suspects. I've heard copies are currently quite hard to obtain due to it's limited print run. There may be a few suspect names mentioned in the publication that you may have missed. I've just remembered the name of the author, 'Ah, yes, it was yours truly!!! I have recently completed an update of the book which now covers over 200 Jack the Ripper suspects, and I hope to make this available through the casebook for those who wish to read or download it for free, within the next couple of weeks or so. With Stephen Ryder's kind permission of course ? |

Hi ex - PFC Wintergreen, I think we can safely remove Mr. Peter J. Harpick from the list. The creation of Jonathan Goodman, he appeared in Mr. Goodman's WHO HE?: GOODMAN'S DICTIONARY OF THE UNKNOWN FAMOUS as a point of entry for Jack the Ripper, but also as a joke directed at the game of "Guess the Ripper's Identity". If you read the passage Mr. Goodman included all kinds of in-jokes referring to fictitious characters in fiction (like Oscar Wilde's "Bunbury" from THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST. Peter J. Harpick is an anagram of Jack the Ripper. I too like "HE WORE A HAT". I would question the inclusion of Mary Pearcey in "AND OTHERS I AM IN NO MOOD TO RESEARCH RIGHT NOW...." She has not been forgotten, as her murder of Phoebe Hogg and Mrs. Hogg's baby remains a notorious case, and she should be under "Convicted Murderers". By the way, I would add Herman Webster Mudgett (a.k.a. Dr. Harry Howard Holmes) to the "Convicted Murderers." The author, Robert Bloch, wrote a novel, "American Gothic" in which a character based on Mudgett is investigated as possibly being the Ripper. Best wishes, Jeffrey Bloomfield |

Here's another suspect you may have missed, who like many of the eye witness descriptions of the Ripper, also has distinctive side whiskers, remarkably he also has a top hat. |

Mr Morley, As far as I know, not many, if any, of the witness descriptions refer to any side whiskers or top hats. But that aside, I agree that he fits the bill and looks quite suspicious. I also see that he has dropped his red neckerchief in favour of a red bow tie - interesting. All the best G. Andersson, writer/historian

Looks like Colin Wilson after four pints of IPA to me. But I might be wrong, because this creature has a look about it that it might know something. |

Hi Judith, just a slight correction to your message. The 150 Suspects book was actually written by myself, C.J Morley. Stan Russo's suspect book covered 70. |

Cheers guys. Jeffrey I realised Peter J. Harpick is ficticious, along with the Reverend Eustace Blackerby, Leyland Llehmorf, Dr Jacobi Ripperage and Corporal Jack Thripper, I was trying to include all possible and entirely inprobable suspects including those from the imagination realm. Just to make it interesting. Any other suspect people can think of can you please tell me? Wintergreen |

Why has an e-mail by AP Wolf which does nothing but insult Colin Wilson been allowed on to the boards? |

A couple more suspects for you. 1) Thomas Vere Bayne (a Richard Wallace suspect) 2) Police constable 666H. A suspect put forward by Simon Whitechapel in his Apocalypse Ripper theory. See his article in Headpress #15 (undated, pages 3-12, 62-75). A considerably abridged and slightly altered version of this article appeared in The Mammoth Book of Jack the Ripper. Incidentally, does anyone know if there actually WAS a 666H? |
